PRINCIPLES OF SATHYA SAI HEALTHCARE
Sathya Sai Baba had been working incessantly for more than half a centenary to bring about the joyous experience of compassion and love to mankind all over the world through a benevolent, health care system. The global proportion to which this has grown is truly a blessing for the entire world. In 1956 his mother Eswaramma requested him to construct a hospital for the poor, while there are many hospitals, Sathya Sai Baba believed that free health care like free education and drinking water, is an inalienable right of every individual, 1irrespective of race, religion, creed or economic status. With these noble ideals, the first Sathya Sai Hospital was established in Puttaparthi, India in 1956.
During the last 60 years this has blossomed into a vast global system delivering free health care in many countries using the principles taught by Sathya Sai Baba. These Principles provide a frame work for the delivery of ideal health care. In the field of medicine, He has fundamentally redefined health care and has made the clarion call for all medical professionals to deliver ideal health Care. Health care implemented by Sathya Sai Baba is guided by the following six principles which are assiduously followed in every health care institution and every health care activity.
- State-of-the-art health care: State-of-the-art health care made available to all section of people
- Free health care: Economic considerations do not prevent anyone from receiving the highest benefit of health care.
- Compassionate health Care Health care is delivered with love and compassion.
- Comprehensive health care: Health care includes treatment of the body. mind, and spirit.
- Preventive health Care: Prevention should be the primary focus.
- Timely delivery of health Care: Health care is delivered as soon as a need is identified without delay.
Rooted in Baba’s teaching of “Help Ever, Hurt Never, the Sathya Sai Health Care System is propelled by the currency of unconditioned love.”
As one of the doctors at the Baba’s hospital explained “The entire out look of doctors and staff here is different. At the outset Baba had shown us the ideal of a doctor.” Baba’s instructions were clear, “Look up on the patients as your own kith and kin, as your special guests and as your closest friend; and attend to them lovingly and with unflinching care. I call upon you to maintain this attitude in every situation.”
